- Okay, i will...
-
- I have *NEVER*, since the SL move, been able to connect at anything above
- 2400. This is using:
- - SupraFaxModem V.32bis
- - Telebit T3000 (v.32bis)
- - Motorola Power 28.8
- from an A4000/040 using VLT, and from my SPARC1 using tip. The "Power"
- will never connect at all (same symptom you have, a "NO CARRIER" timeout).
- I would expect to at least connect at 9600 given even severe line noise.
-
- In other words, i am not using braindead equipment, and have never had a
- problem connecting to any other service. I *have* to believe that SL,
- though they continue to claim that it is the phone company, has not
- configured their end "properly". I understand the phone companies will
- tell you to go to hell if you say your modem connections suck, but if
- you tell them
- "Grandma sounds all garbled when i call her"
- will jump to fix the damage.
-
- If anyone else has an anecdote of ever connecting to the new numbers at
- high speeds, i'd like to hear it.
-
- btw, i even tried to download the PGS3i updates at 2400, but got cut
- off after about 650K/780K and 30 minutes. argh! First one to get it,
- please upload to a temporary ftp site, thanks!
