  23. I have *NEVER*, since the SL move, been able to connect at anything above
  24. 2400.  This is using:
  25.     - SupraFaxModem V.32bis
  26.     - Telebit T3000 (v.32bis)
  27.     - Motorola Power 28.8
  28. from an A4000/040 using VLT, and from my SPARC1 using tip.  The "Power"
  29. will never connect at all (same symptom you have, a "NO CARRIER" timeout).
  30. I would expect to at least connect at 9600 given even severe line noise.

  32. In other words, i am not using braindead equipment, and have never had a
  33. problem connecting to any other service.  I *have* to believe that SL,
  34. though they continue to claim that it is the phone company, has not
  35. configured their end "properly".  I understand the phone companies will
  36. tell you to go to hell if you say your modem connections suck, but if
  37. you tell them
  38.     "Grandma sounds all garbled when i call her"
  39. will jump to fix the damage.

  41. If anyone else has an anecdote of ever connecting to the new numbers at
  42. high speeds, i'd like to hear it.

  44. btw, i even tried to download the PGS3i updates at 2400, but got cut
  45. off after about 650K/780K and 30 minutes.  argh!  First one to get it,
  46. please upload to a temporary ftp site, thanks!
